‘The Dance-Hall Mystery’ is a gripping story set in Blake Hartley’s home-town of Keighworth, Peru and Spain. It’s a saga of international cocaine-trafficking in which the sleepy town of Keighworth is caught up, much to the consternation of its police superintendent, Donaldson. As ever it’s left to Inspector Hartley to track down the traffickers. However, his boss, Arthur Donaldson, does turn up trumps for once in the end and saves Hartley’s life.

This was such a disappointment. It read more like a novel outline than a novel. So much was rushed thru, happening offstage and then just explained, rather than shown. I know Waddington Feather can write, but it was like he rushed thru this, skipping the action and dialogue. The plot was here there, all over the place, with not a focus thread. It explained and discribed characters over and over without bringing them to life with the scenes and dialogue that would make for interesting exchanges. I was surprised, since other Hartley books were so much better. This would zip thru weeks without the scenes to show time passing or progressing. I'm not fond of drug bust plots anyway, but this meandered all over in a confusing way...Product details

The DanceHall Mystery Blake Hartley Detective Novels Book 8 edition by John WaddingtonFeather Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Well written and easy to read.
good reading
Good series
I liked the whole series, even though, after a couple, the books adopt a very predictable pathway to their conclusion. I found reading the Blake Hartley Detective Novels to be a pleasant way to pass time.
And interesting plot, interesting counter activity between working level cop and social climbing cop with social gadfly wife. The success of good practical policework was a very fulfilling, and the novel was satisfying if not exciting. I would buy anther Blake Hartley novel.
I liked this story just as much as the last one. Author tends to skip ahead though which in some cases can mean skipping over a bunch of mundane material and that can be good. However, it seemed like Mr. Waddington-Feather was in a hurry to finish the book. I would like to read more of his stuff.
When two young ladies are murdered at the local dance-hall, Hartley and Kahn find out the reason behind the murders are drugs. This leads them to their favorite nemesis, the Quereshi gang. Of course, Superintendent Donaldson has to muck up the situation and causes his usual trouble. If you like the Hartley mysteries, you'll like this one---I did!
