The personalities are great, beginning with Dick Strong. He's a loser all the way, except that his charming wife makes up for all of Dick's Dagwood characteristics. When he finds one of his fellow realtors shot dead at one of the houses they were to show to some clients, it's just the beginning of brutal attacks upon him, evidently because the perpetrator thinks Dick was a witness to the murder. In spite of warnings by both his wife and the police, Dick insists on doing some amateur sleuthing which gets him into car chases and a variety of near death experiences, usually terminating with him throwing up.Unfortunately, though there are plenty of amusing incidents, fast repartee, and great character development, this is not an easy to read book...through no fault of the authors. At least in the Kindle edition, the novel is replete with typos, jumbled sentences, word check errors and generally sloppy editing. If it were not for that, this one would have deserved a four star rating.

This story is written as a list of events without any literary devices. The allusions to local things are extremely corny.
This is a great read; fast-moving and not at all predictable. I enjoyed the touch of genuine sweetness the author injected into the humor, often lacking in one of Evanovich's. I especially enjoyed the characters and the setting, as I am familiar with the area. The author is very talented, and I am looking forward to the next installment. I love it!
First Dead Body is a fun and easy read with great character development. I feel as though I got to know the main character, Dick personally. All of his funny quirks and excessive cussing made him human and accessible. I liked how Dick lovingly interacted with his wife and daughter and used cynicism and humor with the rest of the world. The plot had me on the edge of my seat!
A great story. Well written with an engaging if somewhat crazy hero.
I recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a good, amusing mystery.
This book hooks the reader in from the beginning. I loved the main character who is flawed and endearing at the same time. I just wanted things to turn out right for him. The suspense was great, the story clever and I enjoyed the first person perspective. This is a really fun read that won't disappoint. I hope that Mr. Hammer comes out with another soon! Glad that recommended it for me. My husband ended up reading it as well and enjoyed it very much even though he is kind of a literature snob. There are some pretty suggestive parts which I didn't mind at all but I'd keep it away from the kids ) Didn't see typos, maybe they were fixed? You can't go wrong for $0.99!!
This is a good story and for the most part reads well. The voice is attractive to me and I enjoyed the main character. It has issues with wordiness in only a few places. Meanwhile, the editor missed the mark with articles and spelling so often I doubt it was edited at all. I can overlook all that for a good story. If I could get what I wish for, I'd get this thing edited and repost it for a real price.
Dick Strong was at the right place but unfortunately his timing was off, which lead to a series of events that found him dodging bullets. Dick is truly a nice guy, except when he verbally and digitally berates other drivers who react to his poor driving skills. You will be rooting for Dick despite the fact that he ignores the advice of the police and his wife, repeatedly putting himself in danger.
